Glossary term: Twitter
A real-time short messaging service that allows users to post status updates over multiple networks and devices, including cell phones. Posts are limited to 140 characters in length. Users or "Tweeters" are encouraged to "follow" other Tweeters in order to keep track of their updates or "Tweets". Twitter can be used to obtain news or to increase one's social network.
